On Sunday the 9th of June cadets from 1082 Squadron travelled with 739 Scarborough Squadron to Cosford Air Show.
Cosford Air Show is a yearly event with as many as 60,000 visitors. this year there were over 50 different types of aircraft wither flying or on a static display. The Red Arrows performed, the BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and hurricane displayed as well as the Typhoon, Chinook, Falcons, Tucano and Tutor Display Team amongst others.
With the virtual world of the internet becoming ever more advanced, it is important that cadets have a thorough knowledge of cyber communications. Ft Lt Fowler, this week ran a silver cyber course ( the first in the country! ) with 6 of 1082’s cadets. The course entailed writing different types of code and programming as well as advancing skills on python. A really enjoyable day for 1082!
This week two cadets from 1082 Sqn attended Trent Wings Easter camp based at RAF Honington, the home of the RAF Regiment!
They joined 42 others from around the wing and came together to enjoy a wide range of activities.
Begining their adventurous week at IWM Duxford and RAF Regiment Heritage Centre, followed by personal fire safety advice and familiarisation, then visited 1 Sqn operational unit, before undertaking leadership exercises with station PTI’s, sports, a day with the RAF Police and a Regiment Fieldcaft day, AFCO presentation, Survival and finally bushcraft lessons!

Our open evenings are designed to showcase all our activities. Cadets who have done these activities themselves will be present on each stand to talk about their experiences. Staff will also be available to answer any questions from parents.
The open evening starts at 7:30 pm at our Squadron building at 26a Chesterfield Road, Brimington, S43 1AD, this is down the footpath opposite St Michael’s Nursing Home and Riverside Motors.
Next Monday 26th March will be the first night of our new intake, from 7 pm until 9.30 pm.
We operate only two intakes a year. This allows potential new cadets to start in one group, at the same time, and helps new starters form friendships quicker. From our last intake 8 out of 9 cadets have stayed on as a result of starting together.
We realise it is Easter time and many people may be on holiday. There is a grace period of two weeks to allow those who are on holiday to still join in this intake. Please do contact the Squadron if you need to do this though so we can plan accordingly.
